Outrage after cop caught on camera 'manhandling' Cape woman

Town - South African Police (SAPS) officers based at the Milnerton Police
Station have come under fire after a video showing a woman being manhandled
went viral.
The incident unfolded
last month at Canal Walk following an alleged altercation between the woman and
officers.
In the video, a police
officer can be seen holding up the woman's top, exposing her bra, while calling
for back-up. It remains unclear why the officer was doing this.
In a post on
Facebook, Prudence McPherson explained that her ordeal unfolded after
police officers instructed her to move.
"After I asked him
to not demand but instead ask me to move, he blew his top!
"I literally went
through police brutality: pulled by my arm, dragged on a brick floor, slammed
against the police van, forced into the van, shaken to the point of
unconsciousness, just pulled along vigorously wherever he went... n eventually
was choked by my own hoodie while standing half naked. (Suffered some bruising)
"When his backup
arrived, five male officers, with no knowledge of what had just happened
(confessing to it as well), threw my a** in their van.
She then added that: I
slept at Milnerton police station that night. Did fingerprints n 'mugshots'
[and] was to appear in court on March 7, 2018 but after prosecutors examined
his statement and then my video, his [officer] story* did not add up n my case
was thrown out".

So he stopped a passing police van and the cops allegedly agreed to help him for a fee of R250.
However, the 31-year-old, who didn’t want to be named, had no idea residents of Jeppestown would be infuriated when they saw the cops moving the bed from the shop in Booysens, Joburg.
Jeppestown resident Musa Sithole said it was not the first time he’d seen police doing private jobs in state cars.
“There are two police bakkies that transport goods for people in the area,” he claimed.
The owner of the bed said he had met the cops while he was buying furniture.
“I have heard of people using the police to move goods. The cops charge a reasonable fee compared to people with private bakkies.”
However, he said he was only expecting to pay R100.
“I felt robbed by the men of the law,” he said.
Resident Sandile Mbuli (36) said: “When you report a crime the police tell you there are no cars, but they’re out there using the vans to transport people’s belongings.”
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Richard Munyai said the bakkie was taking a bed to their social crime prevention office.
“If residents have a complaint, they are urged to report the matter to the police.”

TWO policewomen were arrested in Polokwane on Tuesday for allegedly
asking a woman for a bribe.
The suspects apparently demanded R2 000 from the undocumented foreigner,
who had given them some cash.
Both suspects, as well as their alleged victim, are women.
The woman apparently promised that her husband would deposit the money
and settle the balance, but the police were informed.
The cops were arrested by the Hawks at the Mall of the North just after
getting the money they had allegedly demanded from the woman.
Limpopo Hawks spokesman Captain Matimba Maluleke said when the cops
demanded the money, the woman told her husband, who alerted the police.
“The husband then deposited the money and after they had the money, the
Hawks arrested them.
Maluleke said they cannot tolerate corrupt officials in service who do
not do the country justice. “We want to send a clear message to government
officials who continue corrupt activities that their day will come. We are
going to arrest them and ensure we are left with only law-abiding officials. We
will not stop until we squeeze crime to zero.
“The two officers will be appearing in Seshego Magistrates Court on
charges of corruption soon.”

Gauteng - A Johannesburg metro police officer has been arrested for soliciting
a bribe from a woman driver whom he stopped in Fourways, north of the city,
early on Saturday morning (August 9).
A police spokesman said: "At about 3am the corrupt officer stopped the female driver and established that she had consumed alcohol. He told her to withdraw money from an ATM.
"She withdrew R90 and then went to complain to the Douglasdale police, who photographed the cash and watched from a distance as she handed it over to the officer."
INTERNAL AFFAIRS PROBE
Minnaar said the 43-year-old officer was immediately arrested. He is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Monday (August 11 2014) on charges of corruption.
The internal affairs section of the Johannesburg metro police department has also launched an investigation.
Minnaar said people should call the JMPD corruption hotline if they were stopped, pulled over and asked for a bribe by officers.

Gauteng police have dismissed 66 police officers
between April and September this year, in an effort to deal with corruption,
police said on Sunday.
“Forty-two of these officers were dismissed for
being involved in criminal acts including corruption, robbery, theft, attempted
murder, housebreaking and theft, kidnapping, hijacking and possession of stolen
motor vehicles,” spokesperson Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said.
“As bad elements are a burden to the police and the
community, police will continue to deal effectively with corrupt and criminal
elements in the service.”
Out of the dismissals, 17 of the police officers
were involved in corruption and six in robberies, Dlamini said.
He said other charges against the officers included
aiding prisoners to escape and rape. Ten of the officers were dismissed for
misconduct including absence, insubordination and defeating the ends of
justice. Eight dismissals included civilian members, Dlamini said.
“Communities are urged to take every possible
action and steps in reporting corrupt members and those involved in criminal
acts in order to get efficient and professional service,” he said.
“Taking action against bad elements in the service
must be seen as a commitment by management to work towards a better police
service.”
