Cop raped me at gunpoint, teen tells court

By Hendrick Mphande

A TEENAGE girl recalled in the Port Elizabeth regional court yesterday how she and her friend were bundled into the back of a police van and later raped at gunpoint by an officer in police uniform.

Swartkops-based Inspector Lulamile Senkosi, 38, of Binda Street, KwaDwesi, has pleaded not guilty to raping a 19-year- old alleged prostitute.
On May 23, 2001, Insp Senkosi was on duty in Motherwell when he warned two girls he believed were prostitutes not to loiter in the street. He then dropped them near St George’s Strand.

Later, Insp Senkosi found the 19-year-old alleged rape victim waiting for her friend next to a bridge. The officer allegedly bundled her into the back of the police van.
The van stopped near the bushes where the inspector, holding a 9mm pistol, allegedly raped her using a condom.

Defence attorney Nkululeko Nongcantsi said his client would testify that the girl consented to have sex with him and that he offered to pay her R10 for the service rendered.

The case was postponed to September 2.
