Knysna – The chief of the Southern Cape police has ordered an investigation into the conduct of the Knysna police after visiting the father of a murdered child.
Assistant Commissioner Kenneth Mkhize visited Claudine Arnolds’s father in Witlokasie, Knysna, and has ordered that senior officers from his office be in charge of an investigation into police conduct, spokesman Captain Eddie Cronje said.
He was concerned about allegations that local police ignored her parents’ July 11 report that she was missing.
Police sprang into action when a second report about Claudine was made on July 14. Claudine is one of three girls who have been murdered and possibly raped in the Western Cape in the past month.
Her body and that of 14-year-old Claudia Rossouw were found in the week ending on July 19. Claudia had vanished after going to a choir practice on July 19.
Three weeks ago, police found the body of eight-year-old Sasha-Leigh Crook who was abducted in Ottery, Cape Town.
Police have made arrests in both Claudine and Sasha- Leigh’s cases. – Sapa
