Relief as alleged blue light gangsters are arrested

Community members of the Silver Lakes area, in Pretoria, on Monday welcomed the arrest of two police officials and three of their alleged accomplices, in what is believed to be a blue light gang.
The group was found in possession of several firearms, police uniforms, stun grenades and specialised equipment used by the National Intervention Unit.The gang operated from a security complex near the Silver Lakes Golf Estate.
The manager of the complex Gerrie van der Merwe said it was worrying that the operation was ran from the property.
“It is quite comforting to everyone to know that the suspects were actually caught,” said van der Merwe.
Silver Lakes Security trustee Jan Botha said the officers made the arrests did a sterling job.
“I am so proud of the police and what they have achieved. We will support them all the way,” said Botha.
Investigators were now trying to link the group to several armed robberies and hijackings in and around the capital.
