Cop guilty of statutory rape

A police constable was found guilty of statutory rape by the Willowmore Regional Court yesterday for having sex with a 15-year-old girl, Eastern Cape police said.
Alven Mpondo (26) was sentenced to three years in jail, suspended for five years, said Captain Ernest Sigobe.
Mpondo was convicted of raping the girl in November 2009 at his home in Willowmore after the two had a few beers together.
The girl fell asleep and when she woke up the next morning she was naked. She reported the incident the same day, Sigobe said.
