Crimes of the South African Police Service

20080926 Van Sitters family chased by police chopper, roughly arrested for non-existent 'murder'of black maid

Afrikaners Frans van Sitters, 53, son Jean, 16 and his friend Michelle Cloete were terrified when they suddenly found themselves being chased by a police helicopter on the road between Brandfort and Theunissen. In a deeply strange incident the Afrikaner man and the two children with him were were hunted down by police chopper, then brutally arrested by a large group of armed cops. The boy was assaulted and threatened that they would kick in his rib-cage --  and then the family was accused of a murder which actually had never happened. And all this happened on the Van Sittert boy's birthday.Apparently Van Sittert had bought second-hand window-frames from a destitute man along the road. This was reported to local police by two children who claimed the Afrikaner had bought 'stolen goods'.Then this incident was somehow linked to the ACCIDENTAL death of a black maid back in Bloemfontein -- she'd fallen against a washing machine, hitting her nose, and her nose-bone had penetrated into her brain and she'd died. Nobody was present during this accident - however the local cops investigating this freak-accident somehow had been led to believe that the black woman had died in an armed robbery instead. They then linked the Van Sitters and Ms Cloete driving back home from Bloemfontein to the children's claims that they had just bought some 'stolen goods' from the roadside. And then all hell broke lose.
Police superintendent Susan Moseki' investigates.
