CAPE TOWN – A police officer who
allegedly shot a driver in a suspected road rage incident will appear in court
on Tuesday.
It is believed the motorist reversed
into the off-duty sergeant’s bakkie at the weekend.
There was a confrontation and the
officer then apparently pulled out a gun and shot the man in the chest before
fleeing the scene.
The police’s Bernadine Steyn said an
investigation was underway.
“As far as the investigation is
concerned, the firearm that was used was stolen the very same evening.”
Steyn also said the department was
investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, the Western Cape Health
Department’s Nadia Ferreira said the driver who was shot could be in hospital
for at least another week.
“The patient was admitted to the George
Hospital with gunshot wounds to the head and arms.”
The patient is in a stable condition
and is recovering.
