Crimes of the South African Police Service

Father of raped girl’s miffed with cops
THE FATHER of a 15-year-old West Rand girl who was allegedly raped by her schoolteacher says he has lost faith in the police service.

The man, who cannot be named to protect his daughter’s identity, said the police officer probing the case hadn’t updated the family on the case.

“I had gone with the (investigating) officer to the school to enquire about the teacher’s whereabouts.

“When we got to the school, we were told by the principal that he had sent him home.”

At the time, he added, the teacher had not been arrested.

He said he had last seen the investigating officer on Monday, February 25.
The father complained that he had only learnt about the accused’s court appearance from his colleagues.

The Star understands that the suspect made his second court appearance on Monday at the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court.

The case was postponed to April 3 for further investigations.

It is alleged that the girl was raped by the teacher in the veld after he had given her a lift from school with a friend. He had allegedly raped the girl after dropping off her friend.

Kagiso police station commander Brigadier Sipho Ngubane apologised yesterday to the family for not updating them on the case.

Meanwhile, the family said the girl had been moved to another school.

Gauteng Education Department said on Monday the teacher had been placed “on precautionary suspension”.
