Cops
charged for cruelty to animals
By Marvin Caldwell-Barr
The South African police keep making the news for all the wrong reasons.
This time it’s the Ventersburg police who have caught the media’s attention.
It’s alleged they dragged two cows with broken legs—the result of being injured in an accident—to their police station, after which they left the beasts to cry all night long from the excruciating pain they were suffering
Mercifully, the SPCA was summoned and the animals immediately put down, apparently over the protests of a high ranking officer who wanted to braai them.
Despite opposition from the police, the SPCA insisted on laying a charge of cruelty to animals.
