Crimes of the South African Police Service

Cop raped me, tearful witness testifies
AMANDA* became visibly upset and tearful when she described how she was sexually assaulted by rape-accused police constable Mokolo Molekoa and a companion of his.

The 16-year-old was 14 at the time of the incident, making her Molekoa’s youngest alleged victim.

In her testimony yesterday at the high court trial sitting in the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court, Amanda said she and her cousin Mpho* were walking to a local shop to buy food when they were approached by a black BMW on June 19, 2011.

Molekoa was sitting in the back seat of the car and his two companions were in the front. They allegedly forced the girls into the car using a firearm and drove them to an open field.

After the car stopped, the girls were separated. Amanda was moved to a secluded spot.

“The driver told me to take off my clothes but I refused. He undressed me, took my clothes (pants and underwear) off and laid them on the ground and told me to lie on them,” she said.

He allegedly then kneeled down, loosened his pants and raped her.

When his companion was done, Molekoa, who had been sitting beside her as she was raped, then allegedly took off his pants and raped Amanda.
“He stood up, got dressed, then whistled to his friend and they got into the car and drove off.”

The third person who was in the car with them raped Mpho.

The girls reunited and were later helped by the police.

But defence attorney Buhle Madondo said Molekoa claimed the girls had found him and his companions at a local tavern. He said Amanda told him she was 18 and agreed to be his girlfriend.

Amanda denied the accused’s version. She looked to the ceiling, holding back tears.

“I did not tell him that. I did not know him.”

So far, eight witnesses have testified against Molekoa, and in all the cases, he claimed the women had accepted his love proposal before they had consensual sex with him.

Molekoa faces 17 counts of rape and kidnapping, and 12 counts of robbery.
