FORMER KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Vincent Mdunge will be charged
with forgery, uttering, and fraud to the value of R3.6 million for presenting
a fake matric certificate.
It is alleged he presented the certificate when he applied to join the SAPS. Mdunge’s trial will begin on March 11, after defence lawyer, advocate Saleem Khan, implored magistrate J Levitt to set a trial date as soon as possible in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday. According to the charge sheet, the State would argue that Mdunge was not entitled to any income he received from the SA Police Service, nor any promotions he obtained while working for the police – all of which were achieved through his initial submission of the fake certificate. The State indicated it would also argue it was Mdunge’s intention to defraud the police from his initial application in 1986 when the certificate was presented.
