Woman allegedly raped in police van

THE Independent Police Investigative
Directorate (Ipid) is investigating allegations that a 46-year-old police
captain raped a Worcester woman in a police van.
He is due in Worcester Magistrate’s
Court today.
Ipid spokesman Moses Dlamini said in a
statement the woman was allegedly raped by the on-duty policeman in a marked
police van at 11.30pm on June 20.
“The woman says she was raped inside
the vehicle.
“The suspect allegedly threatened to
shoot the woman and her son if she reported the incident to anyone. This
resulted in her not reporting the case immediately,” he said.
Dlamini said the policeman had been
arrested immediately after the woman opened a case.
“The Ipid conducted an investigation
and decided to arrest the suspect on the same day based on the evidence. He is
being held at the Paarl East police station until his appearance. The
investigation continues,” he said.
In other cases, a 41-year-old warrant
officer appeared in Paarl Magistrate’s Court last week on charges of allegedly
raping a 14-year-old in her home in Mbekweni several times in April. He faces
four counts of rape.
A Mossel Bay police captain was fired
in April after he allegedly dismissed a complaint lodged by a woman against a
police reservist she accused of raping her.
The woman said she had been raped by a
reservist inside the trauma room of KwaNonqaba’s satellite station at
Herbertsdale when she went to lodge a complaint of domestic violence.
