More than half of the police’s 49 aircraft –
considered a crucial element in the fight against crime – are gathering dust in
hangars around the country because they are either being serviced or waiting
for parts.
This is according to a reply to the DA by Police
Minister Nathi Mthethwa, whose office revealed that only 19 of the 49 aircraft
of the SAPS Air Wing are operational.
Six of the aircraft have been grounded since
before December.
