Cop arrested
for dealing in drugs
AN Aliwal North police detective is
due to appear in court today (24/08/2015) after being arrested on Friday while
allegedly transporting drugs from the Eastern Cape to Johannesburg.
The 37-year-old detective constable
is being charged with possession and dealing in drugs.
Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani
Mulaudzi, said an undisclosed amount of drugs were found in his possession
during a crime intelligence operation following a tip-off.
“His vehicle was stopped and
searched as he was heading to Johannesburg.”
The investigating officer, who can
only be named after he appears in court, is due to appear in the Aliwal
North Magistrate’s Court.
In another operation five suspects,
aged between 18 and 25 years, were arrested in Mangaung in the Free State for
theft of vehicle parts at SAPS garages.
They will also appear in court
today.
In a separate arrest, a 53-year-old
woman was caught after allegedly demanding a R1500 bribe before she could
provide the complainant with the documents he needed to take to the Master of
the High Court.
“She was found in possession of the
money she solicited from the complainant,” Mulaudzi added.
Acting Hawks Head Major General
Mthandazo Ntlemeza has hailed the operations as another breakthrough in the
fight against corruption and criminality within the police.
“It is increasingly worrying and
unacceptable that those who are entrusted with protecting the vulnerable and
weak, end up committing crimes.
Drug dealers and corrupters will
remain a target, and it’s only a matter of time before we come calling.
If these criminals don’t get the
message, they are on course to be locked up and to have the proceeds of their
crimes seized,” he said.
