"Pointed his firearm at victims during the robbery"
EASTERN Cape police have arrested a 50-year-old warrant officer on charges of robbery and pointing a firearm.
Police spokesman Major Ernest Sigobe said the officer, who is attached to the Mdantsane police station, was arrested on Tuesday in NU1.
The officer, who cannot be named until he appears in court, is alleged to have committed the robbery on Sunday.
Sigobe said the policeman - who was off-duty at the time - and his three accomplices robbed two people of their cellphones.
"It is also alleged that the police officer was driving a state vehicle at the time. He also pointed his firearm at victims during the robbery."
The four were expected to appear in court this morning.
Meanwhile, a Gonubie woman was yesterday attacked and stabbed by three men on her Brakfontein farm near the Gonubie's Farmers Hall.
East London police said the woman, aged 47, was asleep at 5am when the men abruptly woke her. She sustained leg injuries from the stabbing.
Two laptops, two DVD players and an undisclosed amount of money were stolen during the robbery.
