Cop kills friend for not partying
Cape Town - A policeman is being held for a man's murder in Nyanga, Cape Town, at the weekend, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said on Monday.
Spokesperson Moses Dlamini said the Bellville constable allegedly shot his friend Sakhiwe Njokweni, 23, while he was sleeping on Saturday night.
Njokweni had apparently been drinking with friends earlier in the evening when he decided to go home and sleep.
Dlamini said the policeman and another friend went to his home to wake him up and party further. He apparently refused their request and was shot in his bed.
The policeman fled the scene and was arrested. He would appear in the Nyanga Magistrate's Court later on Monday.
Dlamini said a case of defeating the ends of justice had also been opened against a client service centre commander for being drunk on duty and not helping detain the constable.
