Johannesburg - Two police officers from Bethanie will on Monday appear
in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's Court on charges of corruption and defeating the
ends of justice, said North West police.
Warrant Officer Sam Tselanyane said they were arrested on Friday after they requested a bribe.
"[A woman's] husband was arrested for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and his car keys were in possession of the police. [She] allegedly approached the two officers to get the car keys.
They told her that in order for the car to be released, an amount of R5 000 must be paid upfront," said Tselanyane.
The woman contacted the police and a trap was set for the officers. They were arrested shortly after they received the money.
