Speed cop logic bites SA in the butt
South
Africa's ability to be its own worst enemy is legendary. The inability of a
traffic cop to think is a basic fact of natural existence. When the two
combine, it's a monumental bugger-up.
Take this
one, for instance. Two Swedish tourists threaten to spread the word that people
should never visit South Africa, especially not George.
This comes after Jonas
Nilsson was granted permission to rent a car in Cape Town using his Swedish
drivers license, but in George a Municipal Traffic Official (why can't we call
the guys speed cops anymore like in the good old day?) decided that the license
was invalid, fining him R500 for 'driving without a license'.
Nilsson and his fiancé,
only known as Sanna, lodged a complaint with the George Executive Mayor,
Charles Standers. Sanna said that she's a co-owner of a Swedish newspaper and
will write about the incident to stop tourists from visiting.
The couple said they feel
the traffic official treated them badly and Nilsson wasn't given the
opportunity to explain himself.
Now there we go again...
