No Action
Yet In Knysna Police Rape Allegations
Six months after a Plettenberg Bay guesthouse owner was allegedly raped
by two policemen in the Knysna town centre, the Independent Complaints
Directorate (ICD) is still awaiting the results of crucial DNA testing before
further action can be taken.
No arrests have been made or suspensions implemented although the
suspects have apparently been identified.
ICD spokesman Moses Dlamini said yesterday the directorate’s
investigation into the incident had long been completed. “We are waiting for
the results on two DNA samples sent to the (police) forensic laboratory. We
identified this as a priority case and accordingly asked the Director of Public
Prosecutions to make the testing a priority.”
Dlamini said no link had been established with another case, in which a man
was arrested after allegedly posing as a policeman in order to rape the
complainant in an incident of domestic violence. The bogus policeman apparently
drove the wife away from a house in a Knysna township and tried to rape her.
“Investigations into that case failed to link it to our case,” Dlamini
said.
The guesthouse owner’s lawyer, Frans Fischer, said yesterday he was
still waiting to hear from the ICD despite being told the case was “imminent”.
