Altogether R11 000 in bribes were allegedly taken from residents between
the five cops; one officer, 40, stationed at the Roodepoort station, two at
Florida and two at Honeydew.
Cases were opened early this year and all three appeared in the Roodepoort
Magistrate’s Court in January for the first time.
Roodepoort Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo claimed to be unaware
of the situation and confused the referring case number with a docket opened on
assault allegations. No valuable comment was given.
According to Florida Police spokesperson Lydia Dikolomela it would be
unethical of her to comment on the current corruption situation. She referred
the record to provincial spokespeople that have to date not commented on
the police corruption cases, despite various phone calls and a number of
emails.
