Ventersdorp - Burglars have broken into the Ventersdorp police station and made off with cigarettes, North West police confirmed on Tuesday.
“The story is true. There was a burglary at the station, at one of the offices at the back,” Ventersdorp police Colonel Henry Vermeulen said.
“There was some items stolen, and we are busy with the investigation.”
He said 80 packets of cigarettes were taken in Sunday night's incident.
No arrests have been made yet, but police said they suspect three men were involved in the crime.
“We believe today or tomorrow we will have arrests. We know who they are.”
The Sowetan newspaper, however, reported that a laptop belonging to a municipal worker - an exhibit in another case - was stolen, and that the burglars had gained entry through the roof.
