Case against woman who
'assaulted police' withdrawn

Pretoria - The case against a woman who allegedly
assaulted police who tried to stop her from filming them was withdrawn in the
Pretoria Magistrate's Court, Netwerk24 reported
on Wednesday.
Thandiswa Losi, the daughter of South
Africa's ambassador to Tunisia Nonceba Nancy Losi-Tutu, was taken into custody
with a group of friends in Esselen Street, Sunnyside, for assault after trying
to take photos on her cellphone of police allegedly assaulting another woman.
"I tried to record it with my phone but
a policeman took my phone away. After that he hit me and took me into
custody," she said.
At the Sunnyside police station police
allegedly ordered her to erase the images. She was released after 12 hours but
the police opened a case of assault against her.
She also laid a charge of assault against the
police. This case would continue.
She was irritated when the assault case
against her was withdrawn.
"It is incredibly inconvenient. In spite
of the fact that I was illegally arrested, they made me wait here for four
hours."
The Independent Police Investigative
Directorate confirmed that she had opened a case.
Warrant Officer David Miller, spokesperson
for the Sunnyside police, did not know of the case on Tuesday morning and
Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale, provincial spokesperson, did not want to
comment until there had been a proper investigation.
