Johannesburg - Two police officers were arrested in Tembisa on the
East Rand on Wednesday night for allegedly keeping a hijacked car, Gauteng
police said.
The two constables, based at the Tembisa police station, pulled
the car over during a stop-and-search operation in the area on Saturday,
spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said.
The driver ran away. It was subsequently discovered that the car
had been hijacked in Daveyton earlier that weekend. Instead of handing it in,
the officers kept it.
A tracking company found the car at one of the officers’ homes.
Both were arrested and would appear in the local magistrate’s
court soon.
