Durban – Three Brighton Beach police officers were on
Thursday arrested for truck hijacking and theft of diesel, police said.
Major Thulani Zwane said the arrest followed an intense
investigation by police after a truck driver was allegedly hijacked in
Rossburgh in May.
“The truck driver was accosted by six unknown armed men who
stuffed him into a vehicle boot and dumped him at Umbumbulu,” Zwane said.
The Durban Flying Squad recovered the truck.
The police officers have been linked to the hijacking, theft of
diesel and other truck hijacking incidents that occurred in February.
The suspects face several charges and are expected to appear in
court soon.
The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General
Mmamonnye Ngobeni, applauded Brighton Beach detectives for the arrests.
“We will not tolerate corrupt police officers in the SAPS. Let
this be a warning to others in the service that collude with criminals that
your days are numbered,” she said.
