Attempted murder probe against cop
HE INDEPENDENT Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating a case of attempted murder against a cop after he allegedly shot a Grade 11 pupil in Limpopo.

The directorate confirmed the probe, amid accusations by witnesses that the police planted a gun to incriminate the victim.

The probe comes after Thursday’s arrest of four policemen in a separate case, for the murder of a Nigerian man, Onyechiabi Iwuaka, in Polokwane.

Ipid spokesman Moses Dlamini confirmed the shooting of Jonas Modise, 20, of Mmotong wa Perekisi village, outside Seshego.

THis four murder accused were also released on bail. His case was postponed to July 5. Meanwhile, the four cops who beat the Nigerian to death are expected to apply for bail in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Lieutenant Boitumelo Ramahlala, 32, Constable Mashiba Mothata, 30, Constable Collins Sekwadi, 38, and Constable Thabo Mabotja, 31, were arrested and charged with murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Iwuaka died hours later in their vehicle after they allegedly assaulted him and his cousin in their flat in Polokwane.

Ipid also opened a case of escape from custody after the cops were “irregularly” released from custody following their arrest last week. They are now back behind bars.
