The
Pretoria Magistrate’s Court has heard a doctor’s letter, handed in by former
Ekurhuleni Metro Police chief Robert McBride, was only issued a month after his
controversial car crash.
It is
alleged McBride tried to cover up the fact he was driving drunk.
The
doctor who issued the medical certificate, Joseph Moratioa, is accused of fraud
and defeating the ends of justice.
One of the state’s main witnesses told the court there was a cover up
and was part of it.
Stanley Sargathevan said after the accident in December 2006, he tried
to help McBride get a doctor’s note which would clear him of any wrongdoing.
Sargathevan said he went with McBride to Dr Joseph Moratioa’s offices on
24 January 2007 -more than a month after the accident.
He said the doctor issued a medical certificate stating McBride suffered
from hypoglycaemia, without examining him or drawing blood.
