- Alexandra residents on Monday threatened to take to the streets in protest
following an alleged incident of police
brutality in the township last week.
A
21-year-old woman, Aphiwe Zweni, was allegedly beaten by officers on Wednesday
after she was questioned about her boyfriend's possible criminal activities.
The young
mother subsequently died on Thursday.
A woman who claimed she saw the attack voiced her outrage at the police’s behaviour.
“I am so pissed off. Policeman are the people that are supposed to protect us.”
Community members vowed to support the Zweni family in seeking justice.
“I can’t stand for this - this [incident] is nonsense.”
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate says a probe into Zweni’s death is underway.
