Cape Town - The moles on the back of a Cape Town police officer accused
of having sex with a minor once again took centre stage at his trial on
Tuesday.
Two black moles on the lower back of Constable Adam Adams may have been
the cause of his downfall on Monday when he could not explain how his alleged
victim knew about them if he claimed she never had sex with him or saw him
naked.
At first the father of one denied the existence of the moles but he was
forced to come clean after three male court officials at the Mitchells Plain
Magistrate’s Court examined him.
The Grassy Park police officer said he couldn’t explain how the then
14-year- old girl knew about his moles.
But on Tuesday his lawyer, Advocate Shameema Lakay, came to his rescue.
She said the reason the teen knew about the moles was because the accused had
shown it to the court in September last year.
But Magistrate Nomqondiso Jakula did not look convinced by this
explanation.
“In court? Asked him to remove his clothes? No Advocate Lakay, I would
have never allowed that to happened,” she said.
But Lakay refused to continue until the matter was resolved.
Jakula then ordered that a court recording of September 16, 2014, be
played, where the teenager was asked if she knew of any marks on Adams’ body.
The girl said she did not know of any, she mentioned a scar but couldn’t
tell where it was.
Jakula is then heard saying to Adams to show the court his moles.
This was met by an awkward silence and laughter as the error was
rectified.
The defence then called their next witness, Constable Ashwyn Lamini.
Lamini backed up Adams’ claims that on one of the three occasions the
teen claimed she was having sex with Adams in 2013, Adams was with him and
another friend playing video games.
The prosecutor accused Lamini of lying to protect his friend and
colleague.
The trial resumes on August 20.
