Irishman shot in head after horror attack in South Africa
21/07/2016

An Irishman was brutally shot in the head by a group of attackers in Johannesburg.
Bill Brogan is fighting for his life after three thugs viciously attacked and mugged him while he was leaving for work at around 6:30am on the 6th of July, outside his home.
One of the attackers shot the 66-year-old in the face, destroying his cheek bone. He is in a stable but critical condition in hospital.

Astonishingly, Bill was able to pull himself back to the doorway of his house after passing out from the gunshot wound, where is his wife Mary and son Conor found him a short time later.
Conor had to run to a nearby neighbours house to get a car to bring bill to the Netcare Union Hospital.
Bill has had two surgeries to remove bullet and bone fragments from his head, but his family aren’t sure if the bullet will be left in his head because it is dangerously close to his brain.

Bill’s son-in-law Denis Kaye told the Irish Independent that Bill is ‘in a very dangerous position’ and he’s ‘showing signs of improvement’.
He added: ‘We are hopeful that he will recover. We are cautiously optimistic. He seems to recognise his family’s voices and is trying to engage.’
Unfortunately, Bill hasn’t got medical cover in South Africa so a number of fundraising campaigns are in place to help raise the €65,000 that may be needed for his medical expenses.
So far the family have raised near €20,000 through a Go Fund Me page, with a number of people organising fund raising events in South Africa.
