A clerk working at the Dundee Police Station
has been arrested in connection with a string of armed robberies in Dundee,
Glencoe, Dannhauser and Newcastle.
The Organised Crime Unit arrested Mfundo D. Gcaleka while he was attending a union meeting in Durban.
He was taken to Newcastle where he was pointed out at an identity parade, police said.
It is alleged that he was part of a gang of four men who carried out robberies at homes where cash and jewellery was taken.
Captain V Mbense of the Dundee SAPS told the Courier that the arrest of a police clerk should serve as a strong signal that police will not tolerate any crime – either by a policeman or a civilian. An investigation into the robberies is continuing and anyone with information is urged to contact the police.
