Cape Town - The Independent Police
Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating the alleged rape of a
20-year-old woman by a Western Cape police officer just a day after she was
allegedly gang-raped.
The incident allegedly happened earlier this
month at the Saldanha Bay police barracks, reports Eyewitness
News.
The 20-year-old woman had gone to the police to report how three people had raped her when an officer took her to the barracks, where he is suspected of raping her.

The Ipid says no arrests have been made but
DNA evidence has been taken from the victim.
Earlier this month, Ipid told Parliament that
it is investigating well over 60 rape cases involving police officers.
According to a document tabled by Ipid on
Wednesday morning at a briefing of Parliament's police portfolio committee, 66
rapes by police officers occurred between April and September this year,
compared to 53 rapes during the same six-month period last year, Sapa reports.
Of the 66 rapes, 25 were "by police
officer(s) on duty".
In October, the Cape
Argus reported that multiple cases of sexual
assault had been made against a Cape Town police officer.
The Bellville South policeman was in court
over charges of the statutory rape of two boys but there were six more
potential complainants.
