– The Helen Suzman
Foundation says the country's Constitution is under threat
with dark clouds hanging over both National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) boss
Mxolisi Nxasana and his deputy Nomgcobo
Jiba.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has written to President Jacob Zuma, asking him to extend the inquiry into Nxasana’s fitness to hold office to include Jiba.

The
foundation’s director, Francis Antonie, says they are extremely concerned about
the state of the Hawks, the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), the Independent
Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) and the NPA, with various debacles
surrounding these offices, threatening the existence of the Constitution.
“If the larger South Africa doesn’t take care,
these organisations will collapse.”
The Democratic Alliance (DA)’s Glynnis Breytenbach, who once worked under the deputy NPA boss, says Jiba is protecting senior political leaders like President Jacob Zuma.
“Nxasana has asked for her to be suspended on several occasions, this has not been done. This can only indicate that she’s enjoying protection from the president.”
The Helen Suzman Foundation yesterday received a letter acknowledging its submission made to the inquiry into Nxasana’s fitness to hold office.
