Two Northern Cape police officers allegedly robbed a Nigerian national of his watch and cellphone while searching his house for drugs.

“The officers informed the owner the owner of the Stamper Street house for drugs. After the police officers left, the complainant realised that his cellphone and wallet were missing. In the same afternoon, two cash withdrawals were made at an ATM,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Masebueng Mochologi-Maleeme.

“It is further alleged that on Monday 30th, the same two officers drove into the complainant while he was riding his bicycle in Nobengula Steet. The complainant left his bicycle behind and ran into a nearby shopping centre. The two officers went after him and handed him his bicycle. The man sustained slight bruises to his legs,” said Mochologi-Maleeme.

Constables Tshidiso Ambrose Bodigelo, 34, and Makwadi Christopher Mashalane, 33, appeared in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court in Kimberley, Northern Cape on charges of theft and attempted murder on Thursday.

The case was postponed to April 9 for bail application. They were remanded in custody.
