Johannesburg - Gauteng police management said on Thursday they were concerned about the escalation in members' misconduct after two cops were allegedly caught shoplifting at the Cradlestone Mall in Krugersdorp.

Provincial spokesperson Captain Doniah Mothutsane said in a statement the two members allegedly took a cellphone's head set device and put it in their trousers pockets.

"The shop attendant saw them, the mall security guards were called to the scene and the two were detained."
Mothutsane said the officers, aged 42 and 29 respectively, were stationed at Krugersdorp. They were expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates court on Thursday.

"The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba, and the entire management are concerned about the escalation of members’ misconduct... following the arrest of two police members for shoplifting at a cellphone shop," the statement said.

"This conduct will not be tolerated, as it hinders the reputation of the SAPS."
