A gang robbed and stole firearms on Thursday August 6,
2015, at a police station in Verena, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
Brig. Selvy Mohlala, police spokesperson for
Mpumalanga, confirmed the incident to Netwerk24, and said eight gunmen stormed
the police station on Thursday around 21:00.
“The men rushed into the police station and ordered
all the people inside to lie on the ground,” said Mohlala.
“Then they tied police officers and members of the
public who were there to lay charges. An unknown number of firearms and
cellphones were robbed.”
According to Mohlala, nobody was hurt in the incident.
“No one was assaulted. The incident happened so fast.
Everybody was tied up, the police station was ransacked and the robbers left. I
think they were so quickly because they were afraid the police officers on a
patrol could be returning.”
Mohlala says no one has been arrested, but that they
are investigating the case.
