The Independent Police Investigative
Directorate (Ipid) has confirmed they are investigating several police officers
for culpable homicide after a resident of the Soul City Informal Settlement on
Johannesburg's West Rand was allegedly killed by a police Nyala.
Residents of the area claim the police officers were chasing after the man before they allegedly drove over him during a protest a week ago.
Ipid Spokesperson, Robbie Raburabu says, “The investigation is being conducted by Ipid of culpable homicide. The investigation is at an advance stage because the witnesses that actually saw what happened they are supposed to submit statements this week so the matter will be completed very soon.”
Elizabeth Molebatsi who lives in the Soul City Informal Settlement says her neighbour's son witnessed how a police Nyala, which they call a Hippo, allegedly drove over the man killing him.
