Crimes of the South African Police Service

Metro police brutality

Just thought id share what happened to my cousin yesterday, as he conveyed it to me and reported on by Maroela Media.

He was driving from work at about 16H00 along Olifantsfontein in Midrand and was pulled over by what appeared to be three metro cops standing at the side of the road with a double cab "metro police branded" bakkie.

He was informed that they suspected him of being under the influence upon which he was asked for his drivers license.

A long story short, he did not have anything to drink.

They started pushing and shoving him and eventually cuffed him, threw him on the back of the bakkie and drove around with him for about 3 hours.

They eventually stopped somewhere along the old JHB road next to his car which we assume one of them drove there, and informed him that they would not charge him or arrest him if he went with them to an ATM and give them all his available cash whilst pointing a shotgun at his head.

He refused and was beaten unconscious and his hands tied behind his back with a cable tie and tied to his door handle inside his car where a security guard eventually found him at about 20H30.

Take note i am a pessimistic realist and not someone to merely complain.

This just again makes me think about our constitutional right to security.

Why do we then pay private security companies to "secure" us….
