Crimes of the South African Police Service

Police staff held for theft of car parts

A SERIES of stolen vehicle parts operations, all involving police officers and civilian employees in the police and collectively worth about R3-million, have been smashed in the Eastern Cape by the elite Hawks unit.

Fifteen SA Police Service employees, who were arrested in separate sting operations at police garages in Port Elizabeth, Queenstown, Bhisho and Mthatha on Tuesday, appeared in courts in their areas yesterday and were granted bail.

It could not be established whether all those arrested in connection with the theft of car parts from police vehicles were part of a syndicate.
