A Johannesburg metro police
officer was arrested on Thursday for raping a woman in Protea Glen, Soweto, a
spokesman said.
The 37-year-old officer was accused of raping the 23-year-old woman at
his home in Protea Glen on Wednesday, said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
She escaped and went to the police.
Minnaar said the arrest showed that the Johannesburg metro police would
not hesitate to do their duty.
"Officers will have no mercy when it comes to the safety of the
public, even if it means arresting one of their own," he said.
The man would appear soon in the Protea Magistrate's Court.
