Port Elizabeth - The Directorate for Priority Crime
Investigation (Hawks) have bust two traffic officers and a driving instructor
for corruption, Eastern Cape police said in a statement on Wednesday.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Anelisa Feni said the
trio would appear in the Libode Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on charges of
fraud and corruption.
“The Serious Corruption Investigation unit of the Hawks arrested
a 30-year-old driving instructor who works for a driving school in Libode for
allegedly organising clients for Traffic Officers to sell Learner's and
Driver's licences to,” she said.
Feni said the traffic officers, aged 38 and 52 years old, were
arrested on Tuesday at the licensing and testing centre of the Nyandeni local
municipality's traffic department.
“During the arrest, the Hawks, among other items, seized
completed application forms for Drivers and Learners licenses in the private
vehicle of one of the traffic officers.”
