De Aar, Northern Cape - A senior traffic official, 47, has been
arrested in De Aar after being linked to an illicit licensing scheme, in which
another suspect had already been arrested and approximately R3.7 million in
cash seized.
Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) spokesman
Captain Lloyd Ramovha said the latest arrest was made on Wednesday morning and
follows the arrest in November of Elton Abrahams, 33.
“The arrest follow multifaceted investigations into the alleged
illegal licensing scheme which focused on processing roadworthy certificates,
particularly for big trucks and busses,” Ramovha said.
The man is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate's
Court on Friday alongside Abrahams to face charges involving fraud and
corruption. The Hawks said investigations were continuing, with the scope
affecting several provinces, and more arrests were expected.
