Two policemen from the Douglasdale Police Station in Johannesburg
have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into police
brutality.
This follows a YouTube video which has gone viral showing them assaulting two motorists. In the footage, the officers are heard threatening them, while horrific screams are also heard.
One of the police officers is heard saying "I am going to hit you with a firearm".
Alleged victim Shane says, "One pulled out a gun and said if we move he'll kill us. Police then hit Anton in the head twice and also hit him with (the butt of) a gun. Both police officers then tried to choke Anton until he fell unconscious."
Shane managed to start recording the incident on his cellphone. An assault case has been opened against officers and the case is said to have been sent to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)
IPID spokesperson Grace Langa says, "As soon as we get the statements from witnesses, victims and suspects then we will take the case to NDPP for a decision.”
