JOHANNESBURG - Four members of the South African Police Service are facing disciplinary charges after they were caught sleeping on duty.

Pictures published by the Middelburg Observer show the three officers and an SAPS data typist fast asleep.

"According to an inquiry from the [Middelburg] Observer, a [member of the public] came to report a matter at the police station and found officers asleep," said Middelburg police spokesperson, Captain Khanyisile Zwane.

"Our disciplinary processes indicate that sleeping while on duty is an offence and a written warning can be issued to those accused of the offence. At this stage the matter is under investigation.
Disciplinary measures will be taken."
