PRISON is the last place any parent wants to see their children, especially if they are seven and 11 years old!

But this was the reality for two parents, whose three kids were locked up at a police station.
The couple from Roodepoort, Gauteng, were arrested early yesterday afternoon and taken to Roodepoort Police Station.

They were locked up in the holding cells but their daughters, one aged seven and the other two both aged 11, were locked in a cage-like cell for about two hours.

Allegedly, there were criminals with them in the cell and the girls were traumatised.

The correct procedure is to call for adults to act as alternative adults and take care of the children, but this did not happen.

The mum said: “At no stage did the police offer to call the family or friends to fetch them. Although there are child-friendly rooms with cheerful pictures and colourful walls, officers failed to take them there.”

She is thinking of taking legal action.

Ipid spokesman Nkosana Dladla told Daily Sun Roodepoort police are aware of the matter. Proper investigations will be held and the people responsible will be dealt with.

The Human Rights Commission’s Gail Smith said they will interview the mum as well as relevant parties at the cop station.
