30 YEAR OLD RANDBURG CONSTABLE TO APPEAR IN COURT FOR MULTIPLE RAPES AND OTHER CRIMES

30 year old Constable Mokolo Karpos Molekoa is to appear at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 17 October 2012. Constable Molekwa was arrested following allegations of rape in Randburg and Hammanskraal. He applied for bail unsuccessfully in both courts. The suspect has since been linked to 15 rapes and 1 attempted rape. Some of the rapes also involve kidnapping and robbery. The rapes allegedly occurred in Olifantsfontein/Tembisa area.

Randburg rape

It is alleged that on 30 June 2012 the suspect and his friend met two females in Randburg – the two ladies were on their way to a teambuilding event. The suspect’s friend and the victim’s friend left the suspect with the victim. The suspect allegedly raped the victim in his car. The 18 year old victim reported the rape at Katlehong SAPS on the date of incident, however, the IPID was not notified as required in terms of Section 28 of the IPID Act, No. 1 of 2011. The rape was reported to the IPID only on 13 July 2012 and the suspect was arrested.

Hammanskraal rape and robbery

This incident took place on 8 July 2012. It is alleged that the suspect was with 2 civilians in Polokwane. The suspect and his friends gave a lift to the victim from Polokwane to Hammanskraal. When they got to Hammanskraal they stopped by the roadside and the victim was raped, first by the suspect, then by the suspect’s two friends. The victim was also robbed of her bank card and money was withdrawn from her account.
