2007 Death of businessman Roy Scallan - castrated live, shot dead...suspect Mdudi Robson dies in cell
Suspect Mdudi Robson commits suicide at Walmer police cells - March 2 2007 - PORT ELIZABETH. Norman Silke of  "Die Burger" newsburger in Port Elizabeth writes that Walmer police have closed their investigation into the gruesome death of local businessman Roy Scallan, 54, who was castrated while stile alive and then killed execution-style. In South Africa, witch-doctors often pay large amounts of cash for the genitals of such "alpha-male" community leaders. They make expensive medicine ("muti") from genitals. Mr Scallan had not only been a leading, well-liked businessman, but also was in the prime of his life.
Police senior uperintendent Hein Fourie, commander of the Walmer detective unit, said "police were  convinced that his murderer was the suspect who has since committed suicide in the Walmer Police cells." Shortly after the Scanlan murder, police arrested the man, Mdudi Robson, 26, and his brother -- both had been former employees of Scallan.
