A safe has been stolen from the exhibit room of the Alberton police station.
Lieutenant colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the theft was discovered when the exhibit clerk reported for duty this morning.
It was either stolen last night, or early today.
“It is alleged that there was a break-in, where the main door and the burglar [bars] were damaged,” Dlamini said.
“The safe was then dragged out of the office and stolen. It is unknown what type of vehicle was used by the suspect(s) to remove the safe, but it may not fit into a sedan vehicle.
“At this stage, an audit is still being done at the exhibit room to establish the exact contents of the safe,” he said.
