JOHANNESBURG - An off-duty Gauteng police officer has been shot and wounded during an armed robbery, allegedly orchestrated by himself and five accomplices.
The officer is allegedly part of a gang which robbed a house in Rosettenville this morning.
It’s understood they were spotted by Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officials in the area.
Authorities then recognised the officer.
A JMPD officer shot and wounded the constable when he pointed his firearm at them.
He’s now under police guard at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.
Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said, "He pointed a firearm and he was shot in the upper body and [was subsequently] arrested."
