Crimes of the South African Police Service

South African Police Sevice caught with armed robbery suspects

A policeman was among three armed robbery suspects who were chased and pulled over by a single metro police officer in Cape Town.
A member of the city’s metro police camera response unit was driving on the R300 from Mitchells Plain towards Langa when a member of the public flagged him down.
“The officer stopped and was informed that the resident’s business had been robbed by three males driving a VW Golf. The officer‚ alone at that stage‚ managed to pursue and pull over the vehicle and hold down the armed suspects for questioning until backup arrived and he could make the arrests‚” the city said in a statement on Thursday.
“Among the suspects was a South African Police Service officer from the Site B Khayelitsha Police Station whose weapon was duly confiscated by the Metro Police officer. A total of R2,095 in cash‚ found in his possession‚ was also taken as evidence.
“High-calibre police work such as this is should not go unrecognised‚” said the city’s mayoral committee member for safety and security‚ Alderman JP Smith.
