The South African Police
Service (SAPS) will continue to be viewed as part of South Africa’s major crime
problem if it is proven that a constable raped a woman in Herbertsdale, a small
town in the Eden Municipality district of the Western Province.
Shockingly ironic is that
the 49-year old woman approached the policeman to report domestic abuse. The
52-year old constable allegedly took her into the trauma room and raped her.
She reported it to the
local police the next day but they chose not to respond. She then reported it
to a local councillor which led to the policeman’s arrest.
